It took a while for Spiegel to find hobbies suitable to his sedentary lifestyle. Having few interests outside of radio posed a challenge. With time, Spiegel developed interests normally suited to a 90 year old man: birdfeeding, birdwatching (but only in his yard), and crossword puzzles (but only the easy kind). These activities take his mind off the many neuroses and ruminations that normally dominate his life.
